This position is located in the Office of Safety and Occupational Health within Business Operations, Washington Office, USDA Forest Service. This position serves as part of the national emergency management function for the agency, and the direct representative of the Director, Office of Safety and Occupational Health (OSOH) during emergency incidents and while deployed. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as two or more of the following: Providing guidance, direction, policy and advice to personnel and leaders related to an emergency management program; Designing and implementing a continuous program of professional development, preparedness actions, planning, training, and exercises to ensure personal and unit readiness to respond to and recover from incidents; Developing emergency management related products to include planning templates, exercise materials, job aids, incident action plans, information products, and project documentation; Applying a wide range of qualitative and/or quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of emergency management program effectiveness and continuity planning. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
