Job Summary
As a Legal Administrative Specialist at the GS-0901-9/11, you will be part of Retirement Services, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for processing claims, reviews, and program evaluations intended to maintain the integrity of retirement benefits arising under the Federal retirement systems and enunciation of program policy.
Job Description
For the GS 9/11: For the GS-09: You must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing the following: 1) Providing and explaining programs, rules and regulations to customers; 2) Addressing routine customer inquiries that require knowledge of Federal retirement and benefit programs; and 3) Answering customer inquiries that require making requested adjustments to annuitant records. Note: Your resume must fully support this experience. OR Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or LL.B or J.D. (You must submit a copy your transcripts.) OR Have a combination of experience and education that meets the minimum qualification requirements. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts) For the GS-11: You must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) performing the following: 1) Knowledge of Federal retirement and benefit programs in order to address complicated customers inquiries via phone, email and written correspondence; 2) Reviewing cases of unusual technical difficulty; and 3) Reviewing and approving recommendations and decisions regarding annuitant records made by other specialists. Note: Your resume must fully support this experience. OR Have a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D or LL.M.(You must submit a copy your transcripts.) OR Have combination of experience and education with qualifies for the GS-11 level. (You must submit a copy your transcripts.) Applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-7 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. One year at the GS-9 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
