Job Description
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education Requirement: A. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics. Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite. Courses in mathematical statistics or probability theory with a prerequisite of elementary calculus or more advanced courses will be accepted toward meeting the mathematics requirements, with the provision that the same course cannot be counted toward both the mathematics and the statistics requirement. OR Combination of education and experience: at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note: To receive credit for coursework that is not catalogued on the transcript as Statistics or contain 'statistics' in the course title, applicants must attach a copy of an official course description that clarifies the course has statistical content, or written documentation which must be on official school letterhead from a professor or a school official verifying that the content of the course has either met the 50 percent statistics course requirements or was a statistical course. AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Specialized Experience: For the GS-15, you must have one year of experience at the level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service: conducting research and maintaining knowledge of important contributions to mathematical statistics or statistical computing; assisting in the formulation and planning of research programs for statistical theoretical areas relevant to important methodological and operational problems; and monitoring the use of statistical methods in data programs to ensure compliance with current theories and practices. Education: Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-15 grade.
