Job Summary
The Northern District of Alabama is currently seeking one attorney for a permanent Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) position in our Civil Division. This position will predominantly pursue affirmative claims on behalf of the government but may also represent the United States, its agencies, and employees in civil litigation brought against the government. This position is located in the main office in Birmingham. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.
Job Description
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. degree (or equivalent) and be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) by their entry on duty date. Law school graduates and current law students taking a July 2026 bar examination may be considered, subject to the foregoing requirements. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Strong legal research and writing skills Prior civil litigative experience The ability to work in a supportive and professional team environment with client agencies, support staff and other attorneys A demonstrated capacity to independently move multiple investigations or litigation forward simultaneously and A demonstrated commitment to public service You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
