Job Description
Federal experience is not required. Experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or through Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. BASIC REQUIREMENTS - ALL GRADES: To be eligible for this position you must meet the following basic requirement (positive education requirement): You must have a bachelor's or higher degree in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR A combination of education and experience. The education must include courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Examples of qualifying experience include (this list is not all inclusive): individual economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or teaching assignments in a college or university that included both class instruction in economics subjects and one of the following (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in economics. GS-14 Qualifications: In addition to the above basic requirement, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Initiating and conducting a wide variety of complex economic studies to evaluate policies affecting tax administration and taxpayer compliance and to define feasible alternatives - which involves analyzing long-range effectiveness associated with the issues and resulting recommendations. Providing expert technical advice concerning official action that will affect the economy. Providing advice, counsel and recommendations to other economists and operating officials based on findings, interpretations and informal suggestions. Experience must also include: Experience applying quantitative techniques to analyze and address multi-disciplinary issues pertaining to strategic planning, public policy, or public administration and to provide senior management with economic analysis of major issues, to extend & refine existing methodologies. Developing new approaches to the analysis of assigned topics and to prepare policy options with the action plans to implement them. Experience working with theories and concepts of management science and an associated level of experience evaluating and redesigning various programs. to OPM's Qualifications Standards
