Job Summary

The purpose of the Child and Youth Program (CYP) Assistant Youth Sports and Fitness (YSF) Coordinator position is to assist the YSF Coordinator in the administration of Navy Youth Sports and Fitness (YSF) programs to enable Navy families to balance the competing demands of family life and military readiness by providing rewarding opportunities for youth to be physically active and exposed to positive lifestyle behaviors.

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth AND specialized experience in youth fitness, recreation, and sports programs OR a combination of appropriate education and experience. Knowledge of youth recreational, sports and fitness concepts, theories and principles. Knowledge of a variety of NAYS national standards as they apply to youth programming and youth fitness and sports activities for children and youth. Knowledge gained through relevant experience, which enables the employee to competently and independently carry out continuing YSF projects or programs through proper application of the principles, concepts, and techniques of youth sports and fitness to the specific needs of a military community. Knowledge of the range of activities and services, of participant interests and needs, and of the methods and processes involved in a military YSF program, which knowledge enables the employee to plan and conduct a variety of enhanced activities and services. Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing the detection and prevention of child abuse and/or neglect. Skill in the application and utilization of such knowledge in planning and carrying out a military YSF program, which meets as fully as possible, the needs of the participating community. Skill in effectively organizing and utilizing all available resources within the program framework. Skill in program planning, organizing, and employee scheduling. Skill working with military families and an understanding of military lifestyles is preferred. Ability to supervise others. Ability to lead, supervise, and interact with youth and teens, and the ability to safeguard and account for monies and other related YSF program resources. Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations including evacuations, child illness, and physical and emotional disorders. Ability to maintain records and reports. Ability to safeguard and account for monies and equipment. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
