Job Description
GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must possess the Basic Requirement meet at least ONE of the following conditions as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, or Superior Academic Achievement. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving. Examples of specialized experience include: performing entry-level work assignments associated with the day-to-day operation and administration of IT systems within an organization; installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software systems; providing user training on routine hardware, software, and internet applications; maintaining and controlling equipment inventories; and maintaining IT systems security documentation. Education: One full year of graduate level education in a related field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management). Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Superior Academic Achievement: To qualify based on superior academic achievement, you must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's degree in a related field (or expect to complete within 9 months) from an accredited institution AND have one of the following: Class standing -- must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. OR Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- must have a grade-point average of: a. 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or b. 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. OR Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions as defined below: Specialized Experience OR Education. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in Federal Service. Specialized experience must demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving. Examples of specialized experience include: providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; providing technical support services to coordinate teleconferences and distance learning activities; distributing and installing new or upgraded software to ensure customers receive current versions of supported software; monitoring compliance and maintaining assigned information systems security procedures; and carrying out server maintenance functions using basic Internet server maintenance techniques. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, or Technology Management): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields above OR must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields above and must have required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy. To be well-qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria.
